Challenge

Development of an ADAS solution for commercial vehicles

A driver assistance system had to be implemented for GAZelle vehicles.

The key functions were blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning. The system had to detect potentially dangerous situations in a timely manner, operate correctly in real road traffic conditions, and be integrated into the vehicle’s electronic architecture.

A separate challenge was adapting the solution to the specific features of commercial vehicles: vehicle dimensions, visibility, maneuvering in dense traffic, and operation under different road conditions.

Solution

We developed a hardware and software solution based on radar sensors and machine vision algorithms.

The radar components monitor the areas around the vehicle and detect objects that may be outside the driver’s direct field of view. The machine vision module analyzes road markings and helps determine when the vehicle deviates from its lane.

The system generates driver warnings in situations where lane changes, maneuvering, or unintentional lane departure may create a risk of collision.

Scope of work

We carried out a full scope of work on the development and integration of the driver assistance system:

— developed the architecture of the blind spot monitoring system;
— implemented the lane departure warning function;
— developed radar sensors;
— developed algorithms for processing sensor data;
— implemented image processing for road marking recognition;
— configured the driver warning logic;
— adapted the system to the specific features of GAZelle vehicles;
— verified the operation of the functions in various driving scenarios;
— prepared the solution for further integration into the vehicle platform.

Results

As part of the project, a driver assistance system was implemented for GAZelle vehicles.

The system combines blind spot monitoring and lane departure warning. The solution helps the driver monitor the road environment around the vehicle, reduces the risk of dangerous maneuvers, and improves the safety of commercial vehicle operation.

The following automotive components were developed:

  • a front-facing camera with an integrated computing module;
  • a 77 GHz radar sensor.

Production preparation was completed, and serial production of the components was launched.
